In South College’s Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education (K-5) program, you’ll work to build a foundation in such areas as teaching, educational psychology, and instructional technology before starting focused courses that prepare you for the K-5 setting. You’ll cultivate your ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively to the benefit of your future students.
You’ll also engage in diverse field experiences and professional development workshops. You’ll assist classroom teachers, create plans for integrating technology into instruction, assess videotaped teaching, analyze instructional effectiveness, and more. With two student teaching placements in grades K-3 and 4-5, you’ll gain a total of 16 weeks of full-time student teaching and real-world classroom experience. When you graduate, you’ll have an initial Elementary Education (K-5) TN teaching license and be ready to pursue a teaching position.
